What a Cooking Class in Rome Costs, and What Moves the Price

Rome cooking classes run $32 to $145 for pasta, tiramisu and wine. Class by class, what you actually pay for: venue, chef ratio, the drinks line, extras and postcode.

Updated August 2026

Almost every cooking class in Rome sells the same afternoon — hand-made egg pasta, tiramisu, a drink, then you eat it — and the price for that afternoon runs from $32 to $145. This guide is the arithmetic: what each price actually buys, read from the operators’ own inclusion lists.

If you want the short answer: the best booking value is the Pantheon cooking school class at about $68 (4.9 from 3,487 guests); the cheapest genuinely good class is the $32 pasta-and-tiramisu class near the Vatican (4.9 from 7,666).

The five things that move the price

  1. Venue. A restaurant between services is the cheapest kitchen in the city; a purpose-built cooking school costs more to run; a private home is a private price.
  2. Chef ratio and group size. “A team of chefs” and “small group” are the two phrases worth paying for if you actually want to learn rather than watch.
  3. The drinks line. A glass of wine, versus free-flowing wine and prosecco, versus three cocktails — read it; it is $20–30 of the gap on its own.
  4. Extras. Second pasta shape, ravioli, gelato, pizza, supplì, a market walk, a certificate. Each is a line item.
  5. Postcode. Piazza Navona, the Spanish Steps and “near the Colosseum” carry a premium; a side street off the Pantheon does not, which is part of why the featured school is the value it is.

What does not move the price

The pasta. Every class on the ladder makes egg dough by hand and cuts fettuccine or tonnarelli; the sauces on offer (cacio e pepe, amatriciana, carbonara, tomato-basil) are the same across the range. If pasta is all you want, the bottom of the ladder is honest value — see what a pasta class in Rome really teaches.

Hidden costs

None to speak of: no class on this page excludes anything you need. The recurring exclusions are hotel pickup (irrelevant — every venue is central), gratuities, and “additional food and drinks”. The one thing to check is dietary: several operators state that gluten-free, vegan and dairy-free options are not available.
